Ambient + Studio

Ambient + Studio is a daylight photo and film studio in a 1910 factory building on Wells Street SW in Atlanta’s West End, which the studio bills as Atlanta’s largest daylight studio. The building turned raw cotton into fire-retardant fabrics for about 84 years; photographer Jason Ivany took it over in 2007 and converted it into a daylight studio. It offers more than 25,000 square feet of rental space with hardwood floors, exposed brick, large industrial windows, cyc walls and roll-in access, and it also hosts weddings and events.

Stages

• Stage 1: 10,000 square feet of hardwood floor with large factory windows, a 15-foot ceiling, a 28 x 14-foot one-wall cyc, a kitchen, a hair and makeup room, a wardrobe room and two 200-amp three-phase camlock connections.
• Stage 3: 2,000 square feet with exposed brick, an 11-foot ceiling, a kitchenette, a hair and makeup nook and an optional private entrance.
• Stage 4: a 2,800-square-foot interior skylight studio with a corner cove cyc, white brick and corrugated block walls, a 30-foot mirrored wall, a built-in curtain divider, RGB effects lighting and an 18-foot ceiling that slopes to 12 feet.
• The Quonset: 10,500 square feet of concrete floor under skylights, with ground-level and dock-high unloading and a 12 x 12-foot drive-in door; it has no HVAC.

Gear and production support

In-house photo and video equipment rentals are available, outside vendors are allowed, and the studio provides load-in and load-out plans. Productions with heavy load-ins or extra parking needs use the Quonset entrance at 520 Northside Drive SW.

Booking

Ambient + Studio is available seven days a week, day and night, for photo shoots, film and video productions and events of up to 299 guests. Film and photo rates are sent on request through the studio’s pricing form.
