Root Studios

Root Studios is a photo studio complex at 131 North 14th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a few blocks off the Bedford Avenue L train and about 15 minutes from Manhattan. Its four studios and a bamboo garden fill a space of more than 20,000 square feet, and each studio has a cyclorama, 14-foot ceilings, concrete floors and a skylight with windows that can be blacked out. Root pairs studio rental with its own equipment and digital departments.

Studios

• Studio 1: more than 2,500 square feet with a 28-by-26-foot cyc, a skylight and window, and the bamboo garden.
• Studio 2: more than 2,500 square feet with a 27-by-26-foot cyc, a skylight and windows, drive-in access and the bamboo garden.
• Studio 3: more than 2,000 square feet with a 27-by-26-foot cyc and a skylight and windows.
• Studio 4: the largest, at more than 3,500 square feet, with a 30-by-32-foot cyc and drive-in access.

Every studio has two hair and makeup stations and a stereo system, and Studios 2, 3 and 4 include a 24-inch iMac. Floor plans and spec sheets for each studio are on the site.

Equipment and digital

Root’s rental department carries cameras, camera accessories, lenses, digital, audio, lighting, grip, electrics and production gear from brands including Arri, Sony and Canon. Clients submit a wishlist online, an in-house producer prepares an estimate, and gear is picked up at the studio or delivered. Separate desks handle equipment, digital and studio bookings.

Root Cafe

The café in the lobby serves espresso drinks made to order by Root’s baristas, along with tea, soft drinks, wine, beer and snacks, beside a lounge for crews and clients.
