Solar Sound Studio

Solar Sound Studio is a recording, mixing and mastering studio on Carroll Drive NW in what the studio calls Atlanta’s Studio District. Engineer and producer Vance Vision founded Solar Sound in 2006 after engineering at Atlanta studios including Patchwerk. According to Solar Sound, Future, Young Thug, Benny the Butcher, Raekwon, Kevin Gates, 8Ball & MJG, Yelawolf, Sa-Roc and Public Enemy’s Professor Griff have worked here.

Studio gear

• Recording: Pro Tools Ultimate with a Digidesign C24 control surface and a Universal Audio Apollo X8 interface.
• Vocal chain: a Neumann TLM 103 microphone into an Avalon 737 preamp and compressor.
• Monitoring: Mackie HR824 MkII studio monitors, two 18-inch powered subwoofers and Mackie active PA loudspeakers.
• Plug-ins: Waves, Antares Auto-Tune, SSL, FabFilter, UAD and Native Instruments.

Services

Hourly recording sessions include an engineer who records, edits and delivers a rough mix within the session, and sessions without an engineer are also available. Mixing and mastering are booked separately per song, and the studio accepts projects recorded elsewhere.

Booking and policies

Sessions are booked online by appointment only, at least two hours in advance, with a two-hour minimum and up to 10 guests per session. Walk-ins are not accepted, and cancellations or reschedules need 12 hours’ notice.
