Hill Country Studios

Hill Country Studios (HCS) is a film, television, and media production campus being developed on 75 acres in San Marcos, Texas, by Hill Country Group. The company describes it as Texas’s first purpose-built, tier-one studio. The site, at La Cima on West Centerpoint Road, is about 5 minutes from downtown San Marcos, 30 minutes from Austin, and 45 minutes from San Antonio.

Planned soundstages

• 12 soundstages ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 sq ft
• 40 to 45 ft to the grid, with 4,000 to 8,000 amps of power
• Truss-bearing roofs and reinforced concrete tilt-up walls, with a safe working load of 1,000 lbs per 6 ft span
• STC 65 exterior walls for sound isolation
• More than 100 tons of cooling capacity per stage

Workshops

Four modular workshops (Shops A to D) can be set up for mill, wardrobe, or catering, with clear heights up to 30 ft. Each shop includes 6,000 sq ft of enclosed offices, some overlooking the shop floor.

Production offices

The plan includes more than 200,000 sq ft of modular office space with executive offices, bullpens, conference rooms, breakout areas, and kitchenettes, plus high-speed connectivity, on-site IT, concierge, and administrative support, and parking with electric vehicle charging.

Status

According to its news page, the project secured zoning and annexation approvals in 2023. Its website does not give an opening date.
