Good Friend Studio

Good Friend Studio is a natural-light photography studio and creative co-working space inside the Baker School building, a preserved 1911 schoolhouse on Avenue B in Austin’s historic Hyde Park neighborhood. Two Austin photographers who have been working in the city since 2010 opened it in 2023 as a place for photographers, filmmakers and artists to shoot, host clients and meet.

Studios

• Studio A: 1,000 square feet for productions of up to 15 people, with large north-facing windows for soft, consistent daylight and blinds that draw down for strobe or continuous lighting. It comes with five C-stands, four FJ400 strobes, umbrellas, softboxes, a scrim, sandbags, apple boxes and gels.
• Studio B: a smaller room for portrait and product shoots with crews of two to six, lit by east-facing windows, with two C-stands, two FJ400 II strobes, smaller backdrops and a blue canvas backdrop.
• Backdrops: communal Savage seamless paper, always stocked in white and a range of colors. The studio will try to source a specific backdrop on request.

Co-working and memberships

Two co-working areas sit beside the studios. Monthly memberships include blocks of studio time, lighting and grip gear, the backdrop system, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and free parking; the top tier adds 24/7 keyholder access and unlimited co-working when the studios aren’t booked.

Booking

Non-members and commercial productions can book studio time by the hour through the online booking portal. The studio can also connect renters with local crew.
