Maine Studio Works

Maine Studio Works is a turnkey commercial photo and video production studio in the East Bayside neighborhood of Portland, Maine, less than a mile from downtown and minutes from I-295 and the Portland Jetport. The nearly 8,000-square-foot former industrial building at 170 Anderson Street is divided into two private studios, with white walls, raw concrete floors and exposed beam ceilings, and it also hosts weddings and events.

Studios

• Studio A: nearly 1,200 square feet with a private entrance, restroom and kitchenette. Rented by the hour with a two-hour minimum.
• Studio B: nearly 6,000 square feet with a private entrance, two restrooms, a full commercial kitchen, outdoor green space and north-facing natural light. Rented at a daily rate.

Both studios have 17-foot ceilings and raw concrete floors, and share a prop room, grip gear and a loading dock. They can be rented separately or combined as one package.

Gear and props

• Profoto packs and heads with soft boxes, beauty dishes and octo banks.
• Grip equipment including clamps, apple boxes and C-stands, plus a 10-foot studio camera stand and a workstation.
• A prop house with wood and stone surfaces, dishware and food styling pieces.
• An on-site woodshop for custom set and prop construction.

Sound

Maine Studio Works notes that sound can be hard to isolate for interviews and audio recording in the building, since the tall ceilings and large windows let in some street noise.

Events

The studios also rent for weddings, performances, corporate events, fundraisers, pop-ups and workshops. According to the studio, the two spaces together can seat up to 200 people for dinner.
