Podhead Studios

Podhead Studios is a video podcast studio and production company on South Olive Street in Downtown Los Angeles. Its studio sessions are crewed by film and TV professionals: a cinematographer frames and lights every camera angle, a sound mixer records the audio, and the crew live-edits the show during the conversation. According to Podhead, its clients include The Rolling Stone Interview with Charlie Puth, PBS American Masters, Sebastian Maniscalco’s Daddy vs Doctor, Molly Sims’ Lipstick on the Rim and the Zeke and Luther and Ned’s Declassified podcasts. The team cites more than 15 years of experience in TV, film, commercials and branded content.

Studio and sets

• Podcast-style shoots are filmed on a white cyc with up to six cinema camera angles and up to three guests on camera.
• Sets are picked from Podhead’s look book of armchairs, couches, lamps and rugs, with lighting in any color or style. Show logos can be displayed, clients may bring their own set pieces, and bespoke set builds are available.
• A client video village lets up to four producers or collaborators watch and listen.

• Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K cameras with Canon L-series lenses
• Aputure lighting and Shure SM7B microphones
• Remote guests through Riverside, shown on a large screen in the studio
• Teleprompter operators, make-up artists and in-house editors on request

The live edit, every isolated camera and audio file and the DaVinci Resolve project file are transferred to the client’s drive at the end of the session.

Amenities and booking

The studio has a private make-up room, a kitchen and a conference room. Sessions are booked online with a two-hour minimum, and studio tours can be scheduled before booking. Several parking options are nearby.
