The Lumen Room

The Lumen Room rents a natural-light photo studio near South Lamar at 2307 Thornton Road in South Austin. Established in 2016, The Lumen Room runs natural-light studios across Texas, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Denton, Houston, The Woodlands, San Antonio and Leander. The Austin room is a 1,100-square-foot modern studio with a clean white aesthetic and a large southwest-facing window that gives diffuse light in the morning and direct light in the afternoon. It is reserved by the hour for photo shoots and videos, and also for workshops, trainings, meetings and small events such as showers.

Light and setup

• Natural light only: walls, floors and windows are designed to bounce daylight, and no lighting equipment is provided beyond the overhead lights, so later bookings should plan around sunset.
• Furnishings: a rotating inventory of furniture and decor. Holiday decor is in the space from early October through January 1 and can be moved aside for non-holiday shoots.
• Walls: small tacks or nails may be used on stationary walls; rolling walls and command strips are off limits.

Parking, events and booking

Parking is free and pets are welcome. Guests may bring prepared food and drinks (no cooking on site), and the Austin room allows a Bluetooth speaker but no DJs or other sound equipment. All setup and cleanup must fit inside the booked time. Spaces are booked online by appointment only, with separate photoshoot and event reservations.
