1984 Studio has added a custom-built water pool set to its daylight photo and video studio at 1000 Dean Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The studio announced on Instagram on March 7, 2026, that the set was ready for shoots, and it is still offered as a separate rental on the studio’s website.
According to 1984 Studio, the pool measures about 10 by 10 feet and holds roughly 4 inches of water. The studio fills and prepares the pool before each booking and handles setup and breakdown, so the set is ready when the session starts. Two Profoto D2 lights are included, and bookings have a two-hour minimum. The studio built the set for fashion editorials, beauty shoots, creative portraits, music videos and commercial productions.
Days after the announcement, model Laura Petersen posted from a shoot in the pool. She wrote that the team had built the set so she could have fun in the water, and thanked 1984 Studio’s Baris Karasapan and makeup artist Amina Nayman.
On March 22, the studio hosted its first small-group editorial portfolio session in the pool. Photographers arrived to a finished setup, with set design, lighting, a professional model, hair and makeup, and two looks ready to shoot. Four photographers took part, according to the studio’s recap, and the studio said more sessions are planned. Photographers can message @1984_studio to join the next one.
1984 Studio is run by photographer Baris Karasapan. The 1,000-square-foot space has 13-foot ceilings, south-facing windows and full blackout, plus a white cyclorama about 16 feet wide and 22 feet deep. Profoto strobes, C-stands, V-flats and grip come with studio rentals, and the studio keeps more than 10 seamless backdrops on site. Hourly, daily and recurring bookings are available. As of October 2026, the studio holds a 5.0 rating across 45 reviews on Peerspace.
The team also shoots for brands. Through its Ghost Mannequin NYC and Product Photography NYC services, 1984 Studio produces ghost mannequin, on-model e-commerce, still life and white-background product photography in the Brooklyn studio. Brands can ship garments to the studio or drop them off, and finished ghost mannequin images are delivered in three to five business days.
